On the flip side if in the first season he has a career ending injury the flyers would be on the hook for his signing bonus. I don't think that insurgence could cover that.

If it is anything like Crosby's new contract with the Pens it is. In more than one interview I heard the word "insurance" brought up - so if money leaves the team, they are going to get it back one way or the other, believe it.

Interesting. I guess they pretty much had to. But I wonder how much Weber really wants to stay there given the situation? I think Nashville has to keep him at least a season but he could well be trade bait after that, at a big $$ and cap number, of course. So does Philly now go after Subban or Carlson?

Good news indeed. So at least there was one top team in the East that didn't get better this offseason.

At least this way if the Preds do end up trading him because he doesn't want to be there, they can get what they want. 4 first rounders from the Flyers for Weber would have sucked. They would have been low 1st and wouldn't have helped much, at least in the immediate future.

I still think the Preds need this guy. He is someone to build a team around. They are getting lean with those types of players.

Normally I wouldn't dismiss four 1st round picks, but cosidering Poile's bad history with 1st round picks and the fact that he already lost Suter this off-season, Poile had to match or risk the fans losing faith in the team. Plus Poile got burned by the Flyers before in the Hartnell deal, he wasn't about to let it happen again.

I've seen this speculated a couple places. I'll believe it when I see it.

If Green stays with the idiotic raise he got, and Carlson somehow goes, you'll be seeing my mugshot on TV within a few days.

Yep, with the play Carly had last year (especially late season) and seeing Green's stupid deal, he'll be expecting a 5/25 offer from George.

I haven't heard anything regarding numbers on Carlson's deal, but I wouldn't be surprised for it to be in the neighborhood of $2M.

So weird that Alzner is really our best defender and pretty much the most underpaid

Alzner will get his paycheck. He has worked his way into a solid defenseman. Those entry level deals really keep the salaries down.

Holmgren is a maverick. But I don't know if Philly has the regard for Subban and/or Carlson that they had for Weber.

I doubt Philly does any more offer sheets. Not only did they tick off Poile but they probably ticked off the rest of the NHL GM's. I'm betting a lot of those GM's would have liked a chance to perhaps trade for Weber if Weber truly does not want to be in Nashville, but now he has to stay there for a full year and cannot be traded during that time.

I hope the flyers are happy with their team because I'm betting nobody will be talking with them any time soon.
